He is sent to Pakistan to infiltrate the criminal underworld of Lyari (Karachi). His goal is to dismantle the terror network that orchestrates attacks on India (referenced in the film as a response to the 1999 Kandahar hijack and 2001 Parliament attack).
He is depicted as ruthless and "feral" to blend into the violent gang wars of Karachi, eventually becoming the right-hand man to the gangster Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna).
While "Jaskirat Singh Rangli" is not a famous real-world spy, the character is heavily inspired by two real sources:
- Major Mohit Sharma: The concept of an Indian officer growing a beard, adopting a Muslim alias ("Iftikhar Bhatt" in real life), and infiltrating a terrorist group (Hizbul Mujahideen) is taken directly from Major Mohit Sharma’s life.
The filmmakers likely changed the name to "Jaskirat Singh" to avoid legal issues after Mohit Sharma's family objected to the film. - Ravindra Kaushik: Some elements of living deep undercover in Pakistan for years mirror the life of Ravindra Kaushik, another famous Indian spy.
However, the 214-minute runtime is just the beginning. The movie ends on a massive cliffhanger where Hamza, now the "Don of Lyari," adds ISI officer Major Iqbal to his hit list.
In a rare move for Bollywood, the story will continue almost immediately. The makers have confirmed that Dhurandhar Part 2 will release in just three months on March 19, 2026.
Let's wait for the next part to be released soon..
